Traditional Chinese Medicine employs various body manipulation tecniques to help in the overall treatment of the condition. These tecniques involve hands on body work using herbal oils or creams such as the well known traditional TuiNa massage, or a form of Gua Sha (rapid rubbing of the skin surface with specialised instruments). These modalities, when combined with acupuncture and herbal medicine can be very effective in resolving conditions ranging from common colds, muscular sckeletal problems, and even help balance the flow of Qi in the meridians.
Tui Na Tui Na: Literally translated from Chinese is Push-Pull. As the name implies, this ancient Chinese body work tecnique involves rhythmic speciaized movements by the practitioner to resolve stagnation in the meridians, move the Qi, motivate smooth tissue and promote healing. Tui Na is often incorporated with the overall treatment including acupuncture and cupping. There are over twenty different manipulation tecniques utilized y the practitioner. Tui Na is very effective for musclular, skeletal and soft tissue disorders. It is also used effectively in emotional conditions to help reduce tension and resolve stagnation. Gua Sha Gua Sha: Is a tecnique involving specialized instruments, often made of bones or horns of water buffalo. The tecnique involved repetative rubbing of the skin, which produces localised redness and stimulates the bodys immune system to mobalize in the area. By improving blood circulation, the practitioner affects healing.This tecnique is often used for resolving acute exterior or skin conditions, before they can penetrate deeper into the body. It is a very effective way of quickly resolving common colds, flues, and is a useful tool for releasing trapped heat in the body, especially upper back and neck areas.
